What is Jack Rose?
Around the turn of the century, the Jack Rose cocktail was created, and it is believed to have originated in New York or New Jersey. It is thought that the base spirit was probably Laird's Applejack, an apple brandy from New Jersey. Its name comes from the rosy color of its main ingredient, which is applejack, lemon juice, and grenadine. It has a mellower flavor than straight apple brandy. It gained popularity quickly and enjoyed a long run during prohibition.
